 Welcome!

Welcome to the 2025-2026 edition of the Ultimate Free Music Tech Resources Guide.
I can hardly believe it, but 2025 marks 16 years of helping music teachers like you feel more confident with technology through Midnight Music and the Midnight Music Membership Community.

When I first started Midnight Music back in 2009, I ran a conference session called “Music Technology on a Shoestring”, where I shared my favourite free tools. The session was incredibly popular and teachers kept asking me for the list — so I bundled everything into one simple PDF. That little idea grew, and now we’re releasing the 13th edition of the Ultimate Free Music Tech Resources Guide!

Each year, my team and I review every single link, remove anything that has disappeared or is no longer free, and search the web for fresh, exciting tools we know you’ll love. This year’s edition features over 20 brand-new resources alongside old favourites — everything from creative composition apps and classroom productivity tools to recording software and ready-to-use teaching materials.

It makes me so happy to know this guide helps make your teaching life just a little easier (and a lot more fun). I hope you find something in here that sparks creativity, saves you time, and inspires your students to get excited about learning.

Enjoy the new edition — I can’t wait to hear what you do with it!

What's inside the guide

Free music tech to supercharge your classroom

Creative music websites and software

The Guide features engaging free websites and software that encourage musical creativity, including resources for notating, composing, recording, remixing, arranging, and exploring music. There is also a collection of accessibility-focused interactive sites that allow students to trigger instruments through a diverse range of inputs, including physical movements via a webcam or sounds picked up through a microphone.

Effortless resource creation

The Guide includes links to a large number of ready-to-use digital assets - such as music-specific clipart, images, sound effects, samples, and stock footage. You can use these to create a variety of visually engaging instructional materials, from tutorial videos and eye-catching presentation slides to social media promotions, instructional resources, and playalong videos.

Time-saving productivity tools

Discover a range of top free tech tools for organizing, planning, and managing music classes more effectively. New AI-powered resources can improve efficiency by streamlining lesson planning, splitting up audio files into separate tracks and assisting with communications.

Engaging assessment resources

Reinforce learning and gauge student progress with fun and engaging quiz tools, music games, note naming challenges, and rhythm exercises. Many free assessment tools are customisable, so you can create assessments that are specifically suited to your students and their unique abilities.
